Govt to provide production-linked incentives to more sectors: Niti Aayog

The central government will soon introduce the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme so that some more sectors can boost their domestic manufacturing, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said on October 30, Friday. While addressing a virtual event which was organised by the industry body FICCI, Kumar also told about the efforts the government is putting in for pushing electric mobility in the entire country.

He said that they have finalised the standard of charging for two- and three-wheelers. On the opportunities and facilities for the investors, Kumar further said that they will generate opportunities for the investors while attracting FDI and will also repose to their faith and trust in those who have already invested in India. He also said that they want to recognise them by giving much better logistics and infrastructure than before.

For a similar reason, “we have brought out what is called PLI scheme which will be valid for about 9-10 sectors very soon,” Kumar further told. Meanwhile, the government has introduced the PLI scheme for pharmaceutical already in advance, medical devices, mobile phones, and some electronic manufacturing companies. It is now considering extending the scheme to some other sectors as well.

However, the Niti Aayog vice-chairman did not mention specifically the sectors that might be made eligible for this incentive.
