Adar Poonawalla informs the Covid-19 vaccine will be ready by December 2020.
Adar Poonawalla, the chief executive of Pune based Serum Institute of India (SII) informed that the covid-19 vaccine being developed by Oxford University and British firm Astra Zeneca will allegedly be ready for human use in the month of December this year. As of now, the Serum Institute of Institute is conducting the phase 3 trail of the corona virus vaccine in India.
The Covid-19 vaccine will probably be ready for commercial use by December, only if the SII company is not asked for an emergency vaccine, Adar Poonawalla claimed.
“Maybe we can launch in India in January subject to the UK trial also being completed which is on the verge of being completed, said the CEO Poonawalla in an interview.
He further added that in the upcoming weeks UK will share the data and if it approves the vaccine, SII will immediately apply for an emergency license even before the Indian regulator.
It is said that, the first 100 million doses of the covid vaccine which is allegedly named as ‘Covidsheild’ is expected to be made available in the second or third quarter of 2021.
Poonawalla informed that the ‘Covidsheild ‘ will be an effectively two-dose vaccine. Reportedly, there will be a 28 days gap between the two doses of the vaccine.
When asked about the price of the vaccine, the SII CEO said, ” It is going to be way cheaper than even a test – an RTPCR test today or a rapid antigen test. The government will take most of that load on, financially, and that conversation is going on very well as well. “
