MS Dhoni will lead CSK in IPL 2021, confirms CSK CEO Vishwanathan.
The year 2020 hasn’t been a favoring year for Chennai Super Kings in IPL , as they became the first team to dismiss from the competition for playoffs. This season broke CSK record of 100% playoffs qualification. The Chennai franchise has just won 4 matches out of the 12 they played so far.
CSK skipper has been receiving lots of criticism this season, for repeatedly choosing struggling seniors over younger players, but CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan had confirmed that in IPL 2021 too CSK will be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
“Yes, definitely. I am very confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021. He has won three titles for us in the IPL. This is the first year we have not qualified for the playoffs. No other team has done that. One bad year does not mean we will have to change everything, ” CSK CEO, Vishwanathan said in an interview.
He further added, ” We didn’t play to our potential this season. We lost games that we should have won. That pushed us back. The withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh coupled with Covid cases in the camp meant that the balance of the side was upset.”
On Friday, when the Rohit Sharma side defeated Dhoni sided men by 10 wickets, Mahi expressed his disappointment and misery as their dream of entering the playoffs this season remains incomplete. In the after match ceremony he said, ” It hurts but have to put on a smile. ”
” I feel it is part and parcel, you can’t always think the result will go your way, you think more about the process. Even when you are hurting you put a smile on your face so that the management doesn’t look like they are in panic. We have kept the dressing room like that, ” Dhoni said.
“We need to have a clear picture for the next year. There are ifs and buts in the auction, where the venues will be, and you want to give the boys a chance to perform and show their talent. We have to make the most of the next three games and it is good preparation for the next year.”
Having said that on Friday, after bearing a humiliating defeat by Mumbai Indians, CSK took down RCB in their match on Sunday with young batsman Ruturaj being the Player of the match.
