Here’s a list of scholarships issued by University Grants Commission, the benefits of these scholarships can be availed by meritorious and underprivileged students pursuing university or college level education.

  • ‌Ishan Udya Special Scholarship for North Eastern Region

This scholarship focusses completely on promoting higher education in the North Eastern Region (NER) and raise the Gross Enrollment Ratio. In this scholarship, North Eastern Region’s student who have completed their 12th standard can make use of the variable financial backing.

The students who are applying for the scholarship have to secured admission in the first year at any recognized university/college /institution in any general/ medical/ professional/ paramedical/ technical course.

The annual income of the applicant’s family should be below Rs 4.50 lakh from all the sources.

Number of scholarships : 10,000

Eligibility : Class 12 passed out from the North Eastern Region.

Awards : Rs 7,800 or less per month.

Timeline for the application : Tentatively between August and November.

Mode of application : Online application through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

  • ‌PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child.

This scholarship aims to promote girl child education and all the direct costs related to their education. In order to make use of the scholarship the applicant should be the only child to her parents and should be below 30 years of age. The applicant should secure admission in the first year for a full time master’s degree course at any designated university or postgraduate college.

Number of scholarships : 3,000

Eligibility : Single girl child below the age of 30 years.

Awards : Upto Rs 36,200 every month for two years.

Timeline for the application : Tentatively between August and November.

Mode of application : Online application through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

  • ‌PG Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders.

The main aim of the scholarship is to encourage students for postgraduate level education and help them out with their educational expenses. In order to avail the benefits of the scholarship the applicant must be a 1st or 2nd rank holder of graduation level of the age below 30 years. Adding to it, he/she must have graduated in streams such as Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Social Sciences or Commerce or Languages. Must be pursuing postgraduation.

Number of scholarships : 3,000

Eligibility : 1st and 2nd rank holders of university at UG level and pursuing PG.

Awards : Upto Rs 3,100 every month for two years.

Timeline for the application : Tentatively between August and November.

Mode of application : Online application through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

  • ‌PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST students for Professional Courses.

The key objective of this scholarship is to promote the postgraduate studies of SC/ ST category students in professional subjects. In order to avail the scholarship the applicant must be a first year student of a professional course at postgraduate level at a recognized university /Institute / college.

Number of scholarships : 1,000

Eligibility : SC/ST students admitted at an university for first year in any professional course at PG level.

Awards : Scholarship upto Rs 7,800 every month and juncture grant of Rs 15,000 per annum.

Timeline for the application : Tentatively between August and November.

Mode of application : Online application through National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

  • ‌Dr. D. S Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme.

The fellowship’s main aim is to assist the young full time researchers below the age of 35 years who have received their PhD degree or have submitted their PhD thesis under the science faculty. It also allows young teachers below the age of 35 working on permanent posts in academic institutes can avail the benefits of the fellowship.

Number of scholarships : 300 fellowships.

Eligibility : PhD degree holders upto the age of 35 years.

Awards : Fellowship upto Rs 54,000 per month and juncture grant of Rs 1 lakh per annum.

Timeline for the application : Round the year.
