Piyush Goyal given additional charge of consumer affairs ministry after Ram Vilas Paswan’s demise
President Ram Nath Kovind has assigned Union Minister Piyush Goyal an additional charge of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution after Ram Vilas Paswan’s demise.
Goyal has been assigned the charge of the Ministry in addition to already held Railways and Commerce & Industry portfolios. The Union Minister Paswan passed away on October 8, Thursday following an illness.
Paswan, who was a native of Bihar passed away at the age of 74 while he was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi. A few days ago, he had undergone heart surgery at the Delhi hospital.
In his glorious political career, Paswan parted his ways from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) in 2000 and further went ahead to form his own front. His death is being considered as a major loss to Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) calculus as the Bihar elections are about to come.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, and some other leaders from the parties paid tribute to the late leader by going to his residence in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his tweets, said, “I am grieving beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague, and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity”.
